What a wonderful weekend!!! Feeling well inspired.

Saturday morning, the last thing i felt like doing was partying, with a mixture of fatigue after a busy late night studio session and still feeling grim from the bug i had last week i could have happily hibernated all weekend but im not one to miss a party 😉

First we had my partners Uncle Stuart’s 60th birthday at Madely Hall in Telford, an absolutely amazing property, the perfect setting for the event.

Madely Hotel Telford

One highlight of the evening was watching Siobhan go crazy on the dancefloor to The Fratelli’s – Chelsea Dagger, she never dances at parties so i think she shocked a few family members.
Then next up was DAWLEY FEST, a very good friend of mine Rem was having a party at her’s so it would have been rude to not go round being in the area, and like i said before, im not one to miss a party, or catch up with friends.

Dawley Fest

She put her heart and soul into making the party perfect, and perfect would be a complete understatement, it was ever better. Great people, great surroundings, what more could you want. Was the best way to start my birthday week off work. AND ………. I GOT SOME PREZZIES (”,)

My super sized Happy Birthday badge, Shifty the Gnome, a card, signed maraca, super cool guitar glasses and a giant gold medal to go with my collection of medals i’ve been given over the past few years.

Anyway as per im waffling about the weekend when I promised i’d get the clips uploaded from Friday. Well first here’s the collab im doing with a very good friend friend of mine Damien Dobson/Substance D, we have been threatening to collab for ages but with me being in Blackpool and him living in the big smoke that is London it’s hard getting together to get studio time together, but we finally managed to get an afternoon of work done, he had a superb vocal from a movie that we added, used another vocal to bounce off the main vocal, added a few stabs and hoovers and its well on its way. Fri night i added an acid esque sound, its not very prominent once the bassline drops but i think it helps add a bit more dept in the overall sound. The only bit im not sure about is the filter tweaks on the main riff at 2:21. Not sure whether they just need altering or leaving out completely. I’ll get Damo’s imput then take it from there.

Then last but not least my remix of K90 – Breathe. Its coming along nicely now, friday i was editing the vocal cuts you can hear at 38 seconds on the clip. Im still not 100% sure if i am happy with them, i find that a lot when making music. I’ll initially do something, like it, then after hearing it so many times I get bored of it. I think im going to keep it in ”for the time being anyway haha”. My next task on the track is to get the levels and filter sweeps and a few new sounds added for the 2nd breakdown near the end of the clip and get everything ready for the 2nd kick in. Hopefully the next clip i get uploaded will be the finished product.

Im so excited about this week, i’ve got my daughter till Friday, its my birthday on Thursday and after the wonderful weekend i’m feeling well inspired to crack on with some production. Anyway, peace out for now and i’ll be back with another update very soon, very very soon feeling this inspired (”,)

Famous last words

Yeah I’ll hopefully get them done for the weekend i say, then i wake up the next morning feeling like death warmed up. So I have not had half the time I would have liked working on my remix and another track I was hoping to have almost done. I do get 10 points for bravery for “manning up” and going to work though 🙂 but after a full day at work the only thing I wanted to get upto was get comfy in bed with a funny dvd, oh the rockstar life I lead hey.

I can be a bit of a workaholic when it comes to something I’m passionate about so much to the dismay of my other half I was up rather late last night polishing one off “and I do mean track, you filthy minded things” and getting an outro added to my remix so I can play them both this weekend. No gigs this weekend but I’ve a couple of parties in Telford, one with some very close friends I met through the scene I work in so I really wanted to get them done for them.

Just on the motorway so I can’t upload what I got done last night but I’ll get clips uploaded when I get back home 🙂

A better introduction

Time to talk about myself hey, i bloody hate this part lol. I’ve always had a huge passion for music, the past 4 generations of family on my mums side have all played different instruments, my mum played the piano and very briefly the double bass ”to get out of hockey lessons i think she said her reason was”, my grandma played the piano, and her father was a piano teacher, so it was inevitable i would learn the piano at i think the age of 6 or 7.

I got upto grade 4 while having lessons, then when i started high school i was asked to join the schools band and jazz band, they were my first experiences of performing music and ive been hooked ever since. I had a couple of years where i thought it was ”boring” to stay behind a few nights a week and practise when i could be out with friends, but i soon got back on a more musical track around the time of leaving school. I taught myself how to play guitar, then after my first proper tastes of dance music i started to learn to mix and produce, i’ve been playing around making harder edged dance music and djing in bars and clubs for about 10 years now.

At first i was just using software, but over the past couple of years i’ve starting buying more hardware, and with my last purchase ”of a Novation Launchpad” i now have enough to get my live show off the ground. . . . . .And once i’ve taught myself how to use Ableton a bit more than i know at the moment. I’ve been using Fruityloops to produce for the majority of the time i’ve made music so im still just testing the water and what i can get out of Ableton.

My plan is to get a couple more original tracks and a few remixes of some of my all time favourite tracks done over the next few weeks in fruityloops, then to get them with some of my older tracks together, remade in Ableton so i can perform them as opposed to just playing the finished tracks. I love dj’ing but i love the idea of a more hands on performance. Being able to chop and change the track so every performance can be different to the last. Its going to be an interesting few months learning new software and hardware but i can’t wait to get stuck in.

Anyway i’ll stop waffling on for now and get back to what my blog will be mostly about, my work in the studio, i’ve been working on a remix of one of my all time fave Hard Trance tracks, K90 – Breathe over the past week or so. A lot more off than on tbh, ive had a busy few days so have not been able to get as much work done as i would have liked to. The remix is well on it’s way to being complete, there’s a sample on my Soundcloud page, but i’ve done a lot more work to it since that clip, including getting the vocal in key, so if you listen take it with a pinch of salt. Fingers crossed i’ll get it done before the weekend 🙂
